Forget Kirstie’s handmade Christmas, welcome to Kathryn’s handmade Christmas.
This year I have decided to get my creative cap on and hand make Christmas gifts for friends and family.
I’m a stay at home Mum, I’m not earning a wage and Christmas time can be extremely expensive especially now that we have three kids to organise for Christmas.
I don’t have a big budget and when I went into town to shop for gifts I felt uninspired. It was the same stuff as last year, the same gift sets, box sets. The things that made great gifts and that I would love to buy for people were out of my price range, it meant I would have to try and cobble to together lots of small gifts just to make it a worthy gift. I came away empty handed from my trip and to be honest totally stressed out. I felt huge guilt that I couldn’t afford to spend money on presents for loved ones. Loved ones that spend their hard earned money on myself and the boys to give us wonderful gifts every year.
So I decided that if I couldn’t afford the gifts I could afford to set aside some time to make thoughtful, personal gifts for family and friends. I must say I really loved making presents for everyone. It definitely took the stress and pressure out of Christmas.
Now.. I’m not the most creative person in the world but I am proud of my creations and I can’t wait to give them out to everyone. Adam helped out too with some of the gifts and it was a chance for us to spend some time together which was really lovely.
Doing presents this way reminded me that Christmas isn’t about how much money you spend on someone. It’s about being thoughtful and showing that person that you love and care about them. I think something handmade does just that. It’s something I would love to do for people every year.
Here are a few of the gifts I made for my family and friends this Christmas
I love the photo frames that Adam made. He put so much thought into what he wrote.
I also made some dark chocolate and Nutella truffles, because edible gifts are the best kind of gifts, right?! I spotted these really cute cupcake boxes in Home Bargains to put them in.
I would love to hear your thoughts on handmade gifts. Do you like receiving something handmade?
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Year.
